I am a textile artist who specialises in making quilts for walls.

I was born in Portugal and lived there for the first thirteen years of my life. I began to embroider when I was eight and was taught until the age of twelve by a professional embroiderer.

I continued to embroider and quilt throughout the many years at school, college, and then whilst working for a major airline.

In 1988, with much encouragement from family and friends I finally decided to pursue my fascination with textiles and become a professional textile artist.

Although I love traditional quilts and have made many to commission, I prefer the challenge of trying something new and original.

The techniques that I use in my work include machine and hand embroidery, patchwork, applique, quilting and fabric painting. My commissions range from wall-hangings inspired by the desert and Islamic design for a house in Saudi Arabia to a wall-hanging for a racehorse owner depicting some of his horses and his company logo.

Some of my most enjoyable commissions include a collection of hand-painted, quilted and embroidered textiles inspired by the colours and art of India for a private meditation room, and an enormous double-sided Hawaiin appliqued quilt containing over three quarters of a million tiny hand quilting stitches.

Most of my work is now abroad. It can be found in Australia, Hawaii, France, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Portugal, Switzerland, Dubai and the USA.

I have exhibited my work in places as far ranging as Henley-on Thames, Dubai and throughout the United States of America.

Festival of Quilts 2005
I was thrilled to have been asked by the organisers to exhibit some of my work at the 2005 Festival of Quilts in Birmingham UK from 18 August to 22 August. I created a collection of pieces to show at a special gallery, within the Festival of Quilts which was dedicated to my work

Quilt shows and recent exhibitions:

My work has been selected by a jury for inclusion in the following major quilt shows:

The American Quilters Society Annual show 2003 and 2004.
Houston International Quilt Show 2002 and 2004.
Quilt Expo, Barcelona 2002.
The World Quilt Show 2002 ( toured North Carolina, California, Pennsylvania and Michigan).

During 2002 one of my pieces ( A Midsummer Days Dream ) was one of the quilts selected for inclusion in a special touring exhibition at the World Quilt Show by curator Christine Porter ( former editor of Patchwork and Quilting magazine ).
The exhibition was called 'Best British Quilt Art'.

In 2003 and 2004 my work was also exhibited at the 'Festival of Quilts' in Birmingham UK, where in 2003, the piece 'Number 9 Dream' won a prize in the Contemporary Art section.

Some of the works presented on this site are for sale. Prices range from £500 to £10,000.
